Australia's NBN Co. Captures Worldwide Attention with SPATIALinfo's Software

There is good reason why NBN, Co. in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia selected SPATIALinfo® as their physical network inventory software provider for Australia's national broadband initiative. In a multimillion dollar contract, initially slated for 2 years, SPATIALinfo has agreed to provide software licenses and product support for the planning, construction, and network inventory domain portion of NBN Co's Business and Operational Support Systems (BSS/OSS) project.

As part of this initial contract, SPATIALinfo is providing its integrated product suite that includes spatialNET®, spatialWEB®, spatialOFFLINE®, ADDRESSmanager®, MAPupdater®, and spatialWEBSERVICES®.

SPATIALinfo's products are designed for end-to-end physical network design and management so that network operators can leverage their physical network asset data for improved business operations.

"SPATIALinfo is thrilled to be a part of this landmark project. NBN Co is setting the precedent for building the largest nationally funded fibre network in the world. With a fibre-to-the premises (FTTP) network that will connect more than 10.9 million premises, we expect that many other countries are watching the construction and rollout of this project closely," said SPATIALinfo P/L Managing Director, Tony Cotter.

SPATIALinfo's software products will allow NBN Co to carefully manage assets from the network planning and design phase through to construction by tracking each element of the network as it's built. As each phase of the network goes live, SPATIALinfo's software will enable access to the exact digital network maps that the network design engineers use, thereby allowing field technicians to connect residences and businesses to the network promptly as well as address network issues quickly and accurately.

"Having completed an extensive evaluation process we are now putting in place a key component of our OSS suite that will provide an accurate record of the plant to facilitate efficient business processes," said David Hicks GM of Resource Management at NBN Co.

SPATIALinfo's work begins immediately, as a subcontractor to NBN Co's BSS/OSS system integrators.

Seattle Tier-Two Provider Wins "System of the Year" Award

One of SPATIALinfo's longest standing customers, a tier-two provider in the Seattle area, after implementing spatialNET and spatialWEB applications, has won the System of the Year award. In an excerpt from www.cable360.net (August, 2006), Sean Bristol, Director of Engineering, estimates that the adoption of SPATIALinfo's technologies has led to tens of thousands of new subscribers. We at SPATIALinfo, salute this customer for their outstanding cable engineering and technical operational achievements, and are extremely proud of our long-standing business relationship.

Realizing that they were losing potential customers when serviceability was in question to consumers in remote geographical areas and no immediate answers could be given to their potential customers' cable TV or Internet service inquiry, they knew they were losing business. Now, instead of sales agents having to contact engineering to inquire about various service areas and respond back to their potential subscribers, they can provide immediate answers. Now, there are fewer impatient consumers that hang-up and contact a competitor.

This provider is one of the world's leading communications companies and the nation's largest provider of cable service. According to their company website, they currently have 23.3 million cable customers, 10 million high-speed Internet customers and 1.6 million voice customers in 36 states. In a very competitive industry where most companies are posting negative numbers, this top producer is growing its subscriber base and hitting highs in the areas of customer satisfaction.

It is absolutely no surprise that this Washington-based telecommunications company is earning industry-wide awards for its innovative use of technology to improve business processes. We, at SPATIALinfo salute them for embracing the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology while others were still debating its benefits. Since incorporating the technology and by using tools such as AutoCAD, SPATIALInfo, and Oracle, they now have decreased their service calls, improved outage response times, and increased overall customer satisfaction rates within the Washington market.

We at SPATIALinfo salute them and look forward to an ongoing, successful business association.
